Charlotte County Storm Recovery Resources

 

Oak Tree Village sustained significant damage from Hurricane Milton.  If you are an Oak Tree Village Resident is strongly recommended that you stay with family or friends, or consider utilizing the local shelter. Please refer to the resources below for more information.

 

 

Open Shelter

Babcock Ranch School Field House: 43281 Cypress Parkway, Punta Gorda, FL.  Please bring your own supplies (suggested supplies listed below).  Food is provided at the shelter as well as Case Management services.  Case managers are assessing the needs of individuals and assisting with services. 

Supplies to bring with you:

·         Sleeping Bag/Sleeping Pad and/or blankets and pillow

·         Personal Flashlight & Headlamps

·         Disinfectant Supplies, Hand Sanitizer, Soap, Cloth Face Coverings

·         Toothbrush/Toothpaste

·         Soap- You may choose to purchase body wipes for quick wipe downs instead of soap

·         Feminine hygiene products

·         Cell phones/Chargers/ Back Up Battery

·         Extra sets of clothes suitable for the season

·         Extra socks and sturdy shoes

·         Food or Snacks (72+ hours' worth)

·         Books or Magazine

·         Prescription medications, eyeglasses

·         Important Documents

 

If you have pets, be sure to bring:

·         Pet Care items

·         Pet food and water

·         Proper identification

·         Medical records/microchip info/ vaccination papers

·         A carrier or cage

·         Muzzle and leash

·         Water and Food Bowls

·         Medications

 

 

Charlotte County Transit

The transit rides are available 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Friday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays. FREE of charge! 

 Reservation lines will be open starting Monday, Oct. 14. Call 941-575-4000 Monday through Friday during the hours of 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. until further notice. Due to a high volume of calls, wait times may be longer than usual. 

* In addition, Charlotte County Transit continues to offer transportation to and from the open shelter in Babcock Ranch School Field House. To schedule these rides, call the Charlotte County Emergency Operations Center at 941-833-4000, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.

 

 

FEMA Disaster Assistance

Apply for Disaster Assistance. Apply online or by phone: Disasterassistance.gov or 1-800-621-3362

Disaster survivors with damage to their primary residence may be eligible for FEMA Sheltering and Housing Assistance.

·         Lodging Reimbursement- Money to reimburse for hotels, motels, and or other short-term lodging if you are temporarily displaced by disaster.

Who is eligible? A disaster survivor who stayed in a hotel, motel, or other short-term lodging while displaced from their primary residence.

·         Rental Assistance- Funds may be available for eligible survivors who need a place to temporarily live while their home is repaired, or until they secure permanent housing. Who is eligible? Whose home is unlivable as a result of the disaster. Must agree to relocate, and your housing needs are not covered by insurance.

·         Transitional Sheltering Assistance- If approved for the disaster, FEMA may provide temporary sheltering using participating hotels for eligible disaster survivors. Who may be eligible? A disaster survivor who is displaced and taking refuge in emergency shelter locations. A survivor whose home is unlivable or inaccessible due to the disaster. 

 

 

Florida Rural and Legal Services

Legal Services are being offered at the Family Services Center Tues-Thurs 8:30am-5pm. Florida Rural and Legal Services are assisting with FEMA applications. Located at: 21500 Gibralter Drive, Port Charlotte, FL, 33952. You can call: 1-888-582-3410. 

 

 

Gulf Coast Partnership (GCP)

GCP is providing rehousing assistance to individuals who are displaced/homeless after Hurricane Milton. Call: 941-626-0220. Located at: 21500 Gibralter Drive, Port Charlotte, FL, 33952. Hours are 9am-5pm. 

 

 

Points of Distribution

Open 8am-6pm with water, tarps, and MRE's while supplies last:

·         Port Charlotte Town Center, 1441 Tamiami Trail, Port Charlotte in Macy's Parking lot.

·         Tringali Park Community Center, 3460 N Access Road, Englewood

·         Parking lot of former Muscle Car City Museum, 10175 Tamiami Trail, Punta Gorda.

·         Charlotte County Transit is available to transport to distribution sites and shelters. Free of charge! 

 

 

Comfort Stations with Restrooms, Showers, and Laundry 

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. (Oct. 14, 2024) - Charlotte County has opened comfort stations with restrooms, showers, and laundry facilities at three locations. The comfort stations will be available for use from 8 a.m.-7 p.m. daily until further notice. 

Opening today, Monday, Oct. 14 until further notice: 

Harold Avenue Regional Park Recreation Center, 23400 Harold Ave., Port Charlotte 

South County Regional Park, 670 Cooper St., Punta Gorda 

 

Opening tomorrow, Tuesday, Oct. 15 until further notice: 

Fellowship Church of Englewood, 140 Rotonda Blvd. W, Rotonda West 

 

This facility provides residents with a safe space where they can take showers and do laundry as part of their recovery efforts. Bring your own supplies if you have them - detergent, soap, shampoo, towels. 

For those in need of transportation, Charlotte County Transit Services is offering rides to and from the comfort station. Residents can schedule a comfort station ride by calling the Charlotte County Emergency Operations Center at 941-833-4000 from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday. 

 

 

FREE Fuel Distribution

Each vehicle is limited to 10 gallons of fuel at Charlotte Sports Park, 2300 El Jobean Rd., Port Charlotte. This site is open daily from 7am-7pm while supplies last. 

 

 

FREE Supplies

The Warehouse located at 4628 Tamiami Trail, Port Charlotte, FL, 33980 (the old Triton building). The warehouse contains supplies such as; high velocity fans, Muck + Gut kits (bleach, scrapers, cleaning supplies), water, diapers, food, hygiene products, and air purifiers. Free while supplies last. Items are first come, first served. 

 

 

Replacement of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)

SNAP Recipients who lost food due to Hurricane Milton can apply for food replacement by completing the form online. To apply individuals must:

·         Be current SNAP participant

·         Complete the form by October 19th, 2024.

·         Households are required to provide verification of having power outage of 4 or more hours or damage that caused food loss to their MYACCESS Account, except for households located in Charlotte, Citrus, Collier, Desoto, Flagler, Hardee, Hernando, Highlands, Hillsborough, Lake, Lee, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk, Putnam, Sarasota, and Volusia. 

·         For households in the following counties, complete the online replacement form and upload supporting verification of food loss to your MYACCESS Portal using "Other" as the document type.
